Project Aware has announced International Clean Up Day will be on 15 September 2007. Watch out for news from participating dive centres that will be organising diving trips with Project Aware to pick up rubbish in the oceans.
Project Aware claims that in 2006, “nearly 450,000 volunteers hauled in more than 3,500 tons of trash“, which if we are assuming they mean metric tonnes, is about 7kg per diver. That’s pretty hefty per volunteer and pretty hard to believe. I hope they haven’t been picking up other things besides trash.
