Tom Schils and Andrew Halford of the University of Guam’s Marine Laboratory, make an important point that sedentary communities revolving around algae, zooxanthellae (unicellular algae living in corals) and seagrasses need as much attention as fish and coral since they’re all intertwined in the ecosystem.
Their article in the Pacific Daily News discusses the role of organisms like algae and the dangers they face from pollution and fishing practices.
