Shark Rampage online game: eat scuba divers

Posted under Internet and software by Tim Yang

Shark Rampage

Have you tried Shark Rampage? Eat up everything that comes in site. Chomp on scuba divers and flip the bombs with your tail back at helicopters. I tried it, but I never got to the stage where I was able to eat scuba divers.

Review: DiveShopManager 2.0 very easy to use

Posted under Internet and software by Tim Yang

DSM

Scubaherald tried DiveShopManager 2.0 and gave it a thumbs up.

Dive Shop Manager allows a dive center to control the daily operation of any dive centers. It works in a modular way, and the learning process is easy.

Contrary to its competitors, to operate DiveShopManager you need just 5 minutes of training. There is no need to do a PhD or to spend hours trying to customize 1000 features. In a few words: This is an easy software to use. As simple as that: easy and effective. It’s not a Formula 1 of Customer Service Applications, but you don’t drive a Ferrari every single day of your life…. do you? That’s why DiveShopManager is the perfect “working application”, it does the job in a friendly way, and once you learn to use it’s features and modules, you even enjoy updating your information and getting the software and your dive center data updated.

DSM takes in consideration modules of each Diving Course, commission to freelance instructors, extra costs added to normal dive, accommodation, liveaboards and even adds a system for newsletters to keep in contact with your customer.

DiveShopManager 2.0 is available for both Mac and Windows at a yearly license fee of USD$549.

PADI sets up dive centre on Second Life

Posted under Internet and software by Tim Yang

PADI second lifePADI has just launched a brand new Dive Centre in the virtual reality of the famous online world, Second Life (SL).

It’s actually more like a 3D platform, where you can walk around and talk to others through the character you control, you can buy clothes, a car or a yacht.

Second Life even has its own currency that is exchangeable into real world money, and there are loads of things to do. You can go to a night club and dance, you can go to a concert transmitted live into Second Life or – as of now – you can go diving!

The brand new PADI Centre in Second Life lets users learn about everything from scuba gear to the great dive destinations all over the world – and of course: it lets you click right through to PADI’s Open Water Diver eLearning programme, where you can study the theory part of the course and then choose a (real life) PADI Dive centre to do the in-water training with.

The PADI Center in Second Life was created and designed by Scotland based Second Life design company, Fusion Unity.

Here are Scubaherald’s instructions to visit the PADI Centre:

  • Go to the Second Life home page
  • Create a free character (called an avatar)
  • To visit the PADI Centre inside Second Life, click search at the bottom of the screen
  • Then select places and type the word “PADI”
  • Click “teleport” and you land outside the PADI Centre

If you are a PADI IRRA member and interested in setting up a dive centre in Second Life on the soon to be “PADI” dive island – send an email to marketing@padi.co.uk and in collaboration with Fusion Unity, they can help you get started.
